UN-Habitat is mandated to support national and local governments in advancing towards sustainable urbanization. In this regard, it is the custodian programme of SDG 11 on inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements. In addition, UN-Habitat understands that SDG 11 is actually a catalyst that can enable progress on different fronts covered by the various SDG, which is why it has prepared a United Nations System-wide Integrated Strategy on Sustainable Urban Development,  aiming to provide support for other UN-System agencies and programmes on how to integrate and mainstream matters related to sustainable urban development into their action frameworks.
